The Met Gala Has Been Postponed Due to Coronavirus Pandemic
One of the biggest nights in the art and fashion world has been postponed indefinitely along with many cultural events around the globe.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that the annual Met gala will not be taking place on May 4th and there is no future date planned at this time. This year’s exhibition, “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” tracing the history of fashion from 1870 to the present, is sponsored by Louis Vuitton and is hosted by Condé Nast’s Anna Wintour. The event includes some of the most well-known celebrity names and is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The coronavirus pandemic has escalated to a national emergency and states are taking measures to limit public gatherings as well as promote social distancing. The Metropolitan Museum announced it would be closing its doors temporarily, so it is no surprise to many that The Met Gala has been postponed.
Anna Wintour stated to Vogue that, “Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date.”
