Dua Lipa beautifully covers the May 2020 issue of ELLE Magazine.

The pop star sensation opens up with Elle about her emotions upon releasing her latest album Future Nostalgia during the global pandemic, adjusting to quarantine-life, and insights of where her next album will direct her.

“I don’t feel like we’ll want to be reminded too much of this time,” she says. “Of course, this is a major moment in history that we won’t forget. But I don’t know whether that’s going to influence where my music is going to go next,” Lipa shares with Elle.

During the interview, Lipa expressed her thoughts and emotions in regards to her music being leaked and the huge decision to release her album, Future Nostalgia, earlier than expected midst the coronavirus.

The British singer’s original plan to release the album was April 3rd; however, when songs from the album were leaked, this forced the singer’s hand for an earlier planned album release last month.

According to Elle, Lipa’s intention for Future Nostalgia was to create a sound that felt familiar and brand-new, but to some, the title might also signify nostalgia for a sense of optimism about the future, like a reverse retrofuturism.

“I think the leak just kind of solidified my choice that I wanted it to be out April 3 anyway,” Dua says. “This is me going into my celestial beliefs, but it was like, Okay, this is just how it’s meant to be. And I am really grateful that the music is out,” she continues.

The day the singer interviewed with Elle Magazine, her album had reached No. 1 in the U.K. while “Don’t Start Now” had hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Dua is remaining positive and optimistic that this moment in history, COVID-19, will allow society to view the world in a more different light. Never again taking it for granted.

“I think things will definitely change,” she predicts of society’s post pandemic experience. “I think we’ll tread differently with Mother Nature—we won’t be as careless as we have been. I think we’ll be more empathetic and make moments count. We won’t take things for granted. I think our world is probably going to change forever,” the singer shares will Elle.
