In honor of World Lupus Day, Selena Gomez asks for support by donating to the Lupus Research Alliance.
May 10th is World Lupus Day. For those who don’t know what lupus is, it’s an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack organs and tissues within one’s body. There are about five million people worldwide that suffer from this chronic disease, including Selena Gomez herself. On this year’s World Lupus Day, the singer reached out to her Twitter followers, asking them to help support those living with the disease.

In 2017, Selena announced on Instagram that she had received a kidney transplant for lupus-related complications. In a heartfelt caption, she thanked her doctors, her family, and especially her friend that donated the kidney to her. “Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made,” she wrote.
