“Don’t Call Me Angel,” Call Me Megara in ‘Hercules’ Live-Action Adaptation

Ariana Grande’s sleek high ponytail, silky smooth vocals, and spunky personality make her the perfect Megara for the ‘Hercules’ Live-Action Adaptation, and I’m not alone on this. Ariana’s older half-brother, Frankie Grande, praised his sister’s performance of Hercules’ “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” during her cameo in ABC’s “Disney Family Singalong.” He raved that Megara was the perfect role for her.

Ariana Grande’s fiercely faithful fans echoed this support and have even disseminated a petition to cast her as Megara (they have already amassed 11,000 plus signatures). Seasoned Broadway actress Susan Egan, the original voice for Disney’s Megara, has also advocated for the casting of Ariana Grande.

Unlike the stereotypical soft-spoken and submissive Disney Princess, Megara, the female heroine of Hercules, oozes personality and pluck. She is a free-spirited, sarcastic, and refreshingly independent female character who is much more than Hercules’ love interest. She is a fiery femme-fatale, a force to be reckoned with in her own right. Similar to Megara, Ariana Grande is most certainly a “Dangerous Woman.” She is a strong, outspoken advocate for female empowerment; she stresses that women are much more than girlfriends, wives or mothers; after all, “God is a Woman.”
Dynamite comes in small packages, and the 5’ tall Boss Lady Ariana Grande is no exception. She is a staunch feminist who has been slaying the billboards and the patriarchy simultaneously; now it’s time for her to slay the role of Megara.
