Oprah is Uniting Powerful Black Voices in Next Week’s Town Hall Special

Oprah Winfrey will be bringing together a stellar line-up of black thought leaders on Tuesday, June 9th, and Wednesday, June 10th to hold a discussion on systemic racism that we all need to hear.

The talk show queen will host a two-part special on OWN, called Where Do We Go From Here? The episodes will feature Oprah and an array of black activists, artists, and philanthropists responding to the recent deaths of black civilians across America and sharing how we can support the ensuing Black Lives Matter protests.

The likes of politician Stacey Abrams, Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and actor David Oyelowo will make up the medley of powerful black voices sure to deliver some hard truths about race relations in America today. Oprah herself has long been a proud loudspeaker for racial equality, recently posting a heartfelt response to the death of George Floyd (which you can watch in the post below).

Speaking to Variety, Oprah said “I’ve been having private conversations with friends and thought leaders about what’s next and where we go from here. I thought it would be of both interest and service to bring their ideas, concerns and comments into a national spotlight.”

We couldn’t agree more. Even with the growing momentum behind #BlackLivesMatter recently, we need to make sure black voices don’t fade into the background again. You can help by watching and sharing Oprah’s Town Hall episode, airing June 9th and June 10th at 9 PM ET/PT, available on all Discovery channels.
