Kimberlé Crenshaw Is the Powerful Leader We All Must Pay Attention To

Instagram

Kimberlé Crenshaw took over Selena Gomez’s Instagram to talk about the Black women tragically lost to police brutality.

Crenshaw is a successful lawyer, professor, and above all an advocate for racial injustice. She co-founded the African American Policy Forum (AAPF), in 1996 which is an organization that works to address racial and gender inequality. The organization started the #SayHerName Movement in 2015 as a way to remember the Black women who have been lost to police violence. Crenshaw spoke out on Gomez’s Instagram on how Black female deaths are often overshadowed by male ones. As such, the AAPF works to remind people of the women that have been lost to these police injustices.

Crenshaw has been a leader for the cause and a strong vocal activist both through her social media platforms and her professional career. The AAPF Stands with the Black Lives Matter Movement but also speaks out to remind people of the names they have seemingly forgotten such as Tanisha Anderson and Kayla Moore. Crenshaw used Gomez’s platform to reach millions and share stories about the powerful Black women who were victims of police brutality, women who must be remembered and spoken about.

It takes powerful leaders such as Crenshaw to initiate change, and now it is up to everyone to join her and push the movement forward. Check out Kimberlé Crenshaw’s social media pages for more information and to find out how you can support the #SayHerName movement.
