Jeremy Pope Celebrates Pride Month by Helping LGBTQ+ Youth
The star of Netflix’s Hollywood revealed how he plans to fight to protect LGBTQ+ youth on June 5.
On Twitter, Pope reflected on how Pride Month 2020 felt different, describing it as “less like a celebration on the dance floor & more like a call to action.” With Pride parades canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the on-going protests against racial injustice sparked after the death of George Floyd, Pope’s words perfectly reflect the current climate.
this year’s #pride feels different. feels less like a celebration on the dance floor & more like a call to action. It’s up to our non black allies & supporters to protect the black & brown LGBTQ+ community as we to continue to demand justice against racial & gender inequalities.

Due to this, Pope decided to celebrate Pride Month differently this year. On his Instagram, he announced he will be donating to True Colors United and Ali Forney Center. These organizations not only focus on advocating for LGBTQ+ rights but they also specifically work towards helping LGBTQ+ youth with issues regarding homelessness. According to True Colors United, LGBTQ+ youth is “120% more likely to experience homelessness than their non-LGBTQ peers.”
Pope will also join writer and director Janet Mock and donate to the Trans Justice Funding Project, a community-led organization that distributes funds to grassroots, trans justice groups. Since 2012, they have managed to raise over 2.7 million dollars to organizations that are run by and for trans people.
