Prompted by the Black Lives Matter movement, rapper Big Sean took to both Instagram and Twitter to speak out about his experience as a Black man in America.

“I know I been protesting, I know a lot of us been out on the streets protesting and it’s been a lot of unity, but I also see a lot of people with ulterior motives that look like undercover cops,” he explained. “And we’ve all seen places where they’ve got them bricks conveniently located to wreak havoc, and I don’t know what the ulterior motive is,” said Big Sean.

From the heart #BlackLivesMatter

Sean continued to speak on his experience, explaining that he doesn’t “feel equal” or “feel free” being a Black man. He posted this transparent video message in hopes of making a change to society.

“Of course, let’s speak up and be heard, but things have to change. Maybe these rules have to get updated, maybe these laws have to get updated, [but] the government has to relay that foundation because it is a racist foundation right now,” he continued.

Big Sean also took the time to reflect on America’s history regarding our country’s “racist foundation.”

“Our ancestors built this country for free, OK? So I’m just talking from the heart right now but one of my biggest issues is that…this current government, and country, is built on a racist foundation. A lot of us know this. You want to talk about systemic oppression, you want to talk about the justice system being targeted to people that look like me.”

As Big Sean stated, “One person can change the world.” You can be the change by signing petitions, joining a campaign, going out and protesting, and continuing to speak out against police brutality.
