Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Asserts That Microsoft Must Change First If It Hopes to Change the World
We admire Microsoft’s hard drive and dedication to achieving racial justice.
After numerous companies, which have been showing support for Black Lives Matter, have been accused of hypocrisy for the troubling conditions reported by workers, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is determined to improve internal conditions.
There is no place for hate and racism in our society. Empathy and shared understanding are a start, but we must do more. I stand with the Black and African American community and we are committed to building on this work in our company and in our communities. https://t.co/WaEuhRqBho

Microsoft is currently investing in its talent pipeline, and expanding and establishing contacts with Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The company has also been posting poignant, powerful quotes from Black employees regarding systemic racism on various social media platforms.

Despite laudable efforts towards racial equity, Microsoft still has a long way to go. According to Microsoft’s 2019 diversity and inclusion report, only 3% of its managers are Black and merely 4.4% of its global workforce identify as Black. Nadella stresses, “…we need to reflect the world we serve.” This sensational software company is dedicated to creating a diverse, highly-skilled team: It is determined to empower Black employees and position them within the inner circle.

Unlike rival tech companies who are all bark no byte, Microsoft is seriously stepping up its game and creating meaningful change within the company. We applaud Microsoft for acknowledging its shortcomings, lack of diversity, and striving to create a work environment that reflects the values it preaches.
I am a plucky Sophomore at Wesleyan University with a passion for writing, fashion, running, and extremely strong coffee—so strong that it would make a 6’5’’ WWE wrestler weep. I am a small person with a big personality, only intensified by the coffee, that seeps into both my bold street and writing style. I am currently based in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area and am excited to work for such an empowering, female-focused publication. During this trying time in history it is more important than ever for women to continue lifting each other up and spreading positive energy!
