Anderson .Paak Reflects on Racial Injustice in New Music Video
Anderson .Paak tackles police brutality, racial injustice, unemployment, and COVID-19 in his new protest single “Lockdown.”
On June 18, Paak announced to his Twitter and Instagram followers that he would release his newest single on Juneteenth, and fans could not wait. Paak posted the “Lockdown” art cover, which shows him holding a sign saying “the people are rising,” while also listing the names of Black lives that were taken by police brutality.

“Lockdown,” which already has over a million views on YouTube, details Paak’s experience at the Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles. The lyrics also touch on many different topics, such as racial inequality, unemployment, and even the COVID-19 pandemic.
“But you speak loud when we riot, got opinions comin from a place of privilege/Sicker than the COVID, how they did him on the ground/Speaking of the COVID is it still goin around?”
The music video also included cameos from other artists such as Jay Rock, Syd, Andra Day, and Jonathan “Dumbfoundead” Park.
In the final moments of the music video, the cast and crew that participated donated their salaries to Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM), Dream Defenders, and Color of Change. Paak House also made donations to Action Bail Fund LA, Atlanta Solidarity Fund, and Albany Bail & Safety Fund for Black Lives.
