Actor Ansel Elgort Responds to Sexual Assault Allegations
The actor took to Instagram to share his statement.
A Twitter user by the name Gabby, account handle @Itsgabby, shared a note on Friday, June 19, 2020, accusing actor Ansel Elgort of sexually assaulting her when she was only 17 years old. Though the Twitter account that originally shared the note has since been deactivated, screenshots of her allegations have been re-posted on social media.

According to BuzzFeed News, Gabby reports she met Elgort after allegedly receiving his private Snapchat handle from the actor himself. “I disassociated myself and just felt like my mind was gone, I was in shock, I couldn’t leave…he made me think this is how sex was supposed to be,” writes Gabby in the note she’d shared. She goes on to detail that Elgort “asked to have a threesome with me and one of my ‘dance friends.’” Gabby’s screenshots of an alleged conversation between her and Elgort has been shared on social media as well.
On Saturday, June 20, 2020, Elgort made a statement on Instagram denying the accusations made by Gabby, saying, “I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened.”

Elgort continued his defense, writing: “I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal, and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.”
Elgort claims he is “disgusted and deeply ashamed” of his actions and that he is “truly sorry.”
Gabby explained her decision to come forward, stating: “Finally, I’m ready to talk about it and finally heal… I just want to heal and I want to tell other girls who have been through the same sh*t as me, you’re not alone.”
