See Why Drew Barrymore Says She’ll Be Learning Until the End of Time

While on the cover of August’s issue of InStyle Magazine, Drew Barrymore got real about the state of the world, being a single mom, and using her platform.

Drew Barrymore is no stranger to speaking her mind and learning from her mistakes.

The multi-talented actress, now 45, has been in the spotlight since she was seven years old, but it feels like her most recent interview for InStyle is her most candid one yet. (And not just because she wore her own clothes, did her own makeup, and took her own photos for it!)

On the topic of working hard, Barrymore talked about wanting to be more than just a name or a face, as she wants to be seen as someone who actually did something.

“You can’t be fueled by negativity. That’s why, to me, what’s happening now in the world does not feel negative; it feels overdue. People will have different opinions about how to proceed, and based on history, there is nothing everyone in the world will agree on. But it seems like there is a collective consciousness right now — an American and global awakening.”

She recognizes that this is a sensitive time in the world with a new normal setting in, so she continued, saying that now more than ever, “I am a student. I’ll be learning until the end of time.”

The Santa Clarita Diet star was honest about the way she talks to her young daughters about everything going on in the world, as well.

“I also do not believe in bringing them up in any type of bubble,” Drew explained, saying that while she shields some images and videos seen on the news from her kids, there are appropriate books being read and discussions happening in their home regarding the coronavirus pandemic and Black Lives Matter.

She may be a single mom who eats dinner with her kids in the kitchen with a television playing in the background, but that isn’t stopping her from teaching her kids about the world and what it means to become educated and use what you know for good.

An approach For parents

Drew knows what it is like to have a voice just as much as she knows what it’s like for people to speak for her (and about her), so now more than ever she has taken her platform into her own hands to be honest with herself and her fans about her life, as well as the world around her.

“When things are so important and high-stakes, such as this time in the world, you wonder how to find your voice. I write and speak as if no one is reading or listening. That doesn’t mean I don’t care what people think; I am a human welcome mat. Upsetting someone is the last thing on earth I’d want to do, but we should all be nicer to ourselves. Humility and perspective are vital.”

Drew Barrymore has proved to be a strong-willed and intelligent person, but it is clear that she is only getting wiser as the years go on.

Everyone should take a page from Drew’s book and be honest with what they know, what they are willing to learn, and how they are going to use that education for positive change.
