Philadelphia Eagles’ Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson Receives Backlash After Sharing Anti-Semitic Post

DeSean Jackson claims that his anti-Semitic post was taken “the wrong way.”
The Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, is facing public backlash after sharing an excerpt from an apparent Adolf Hitler quote on Instagram. The anti-Semitic message stated that white Jews, “will blackmail America. [They] will extort America, their plan for world domination won’t work if the Negroes know who they were.”
.@Eagles WR DeSean Jackson posts a quote that says white Jews will “blackmail” and “extort” America. Then says, “I have no hatred in my heart toward no one.” At the very least, he is ignorant of what it means to be anti-Semitic. https://t.co/fahbdEyDOh

Shortly after sharing the provocative, problematic post, the wide receiver faced widespread opposition and outrage from social media activists. Jackson posted an “apology” on Instagram where he claimed that his message was taken “the wrong way.”
He adamantly maintains that he has “no hatred in my heart toward (anyone).” Despite Jackson’s incessant claims of innocence and self-professed religious tolerance, The Eagles have publicly condemned his callous, controversial actions. The NFL team commented that Jackson’s posts “have no place in our society.” The team elaborated, “…regardless of his intentions, the messages he shared were offensive, harmful, and absolutely appalling. They have no place in our society, and are not condoned or supported in any way by the organization…”

The franchise is reportedly continuing to evaluate the circumstances and is expected to take further action in the upcoming weeks. However, to date, there is no talk of a suspension or termination. In an effort to learn and grow from this appalling incident, the team plans to facilitate productive and meaningful conversations with their players and staff regarding religious tolerance.
We can’t just talk about racism or prejudice when we are impacted.
I hope my Jewish brothers & sisters feel heard, and loved, & DeSean Jackson grows. @SFY pic.twitter.com/7tCSTvHxOf

Only time will tell where this situation stands with DeSean Jackson and the Eagles.
I am a plucky Sophomore at Wesleyan University with a passion for writing, fashion, running, and extremely strong coffee—so strong that it would make a 6’5’’ WWE wrestler weep. I am a small person with a big personality, only intensified by the coffee, that seeps into both my bold street and writing style. I am currently based in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area and am excited to work for such an empowering, female-focused publication. During this trying time in history it is more important than ever for women to continue lifting each other up and spreading positive energy!
