Gabrielle Union Says ‘More Change Is Needed’ in the Workplace
Actress Gabrielle Union commented on NBCUniversal’s plans to “promote a positive culture” at the company.
NBC News leader Cedar Conde announced they are committed to creating a new workforce with more diversity amongst employees.
“We are a news organization that I think has a unique responsibility to reflect and represent the various communities we serve. In order to do that, we wanted to make sure that we attract the best and the brightest from all walks of life,” Cedar Conde stated.
Gabrielle took to Twitter, Tuesday, June 7, mentioning there needs to be further changes implemented in order to end racial and gender discrimination at the network.
Great start by NBC to recognize the need to not turn away & ignore racial & gender discrimination on programs like #AGT. More changes are needed however like stopping executives from intimidating talent from sharing their experience of racism in their own workplace investigations https://t.co/A54rXxVkQY

In an interview with Variety, Gabrielle discussed the racial discrimination she had faced behind-the-scenes while working on NBC.
“There are so many people who are committed to making NBCUniversal and Comcast different, who truly want to be a part of the solution and on the right side of history,” she stated. “In the same breath, there are some people who want the wheels of change to come to a grinding halt because they feel that their privilege is being challenged.”
After discussing her experience at NBC with Variety, she ended her argument by stating, “At the end of all this, my goal is real change — and not just on this show but for the larger parent company. It starts from the top down. My goal is to create the happiest, most high-functioning, inclusive, protected and healthy example of a workplace.”
After Gabrielle spoke out about her feelings on NBC, she received positive feedback and started productive conversations within the comment section.
We need a new culture of equality.
Not aspirationally, not incrementally.
Starting right now.
We have a plan for that. ✌️— The Cinema Unguild (@unguild) July 7, 2020
Hopefully, with more celebrities speaking out about the discrimination they have faced at large networks, they will start to incorporate a more diverse environment.
