Target Just Made It Easier to Support Black-Owned and Black-Founded Brands Online

Target reveals its new feature to help customers identify Black-owned brands.

Amid Black Lives Matter and collective efforts to attain racial equity, many companies are creating meaningful internal changes in an effort to nurture the movement. Leading cosmetic company Sephora has pledged to represent more Black-owned brands. Lashify has spearheaded a medley of mentorship programs to support Black business owners. Likewise, Target is championing the racial justice campaign by unveiling a new feature that enables customers to shop from Black-owned and Black-founded brands.

This revolutionary new feature appears as a small beige badge showcasing several neutral-colored hearts. The corporation is using this badge to represent all Black-founded and Black-owned brands it carries. Interested customers can access the badge via the retailer’s “at a glance category,” along with fellow badges used to label products that are clean, cruelty-free, and vegan. This new feature has enjoyed immense support: It enables customers to easily and efficiently identify businesses owned or founded by Black people and shop ethically.

According to a company statement issued to Allure, allegedly, this large retail corporation was stirred to action by customer feedback. The company candidly commented, “Based on what our guests are searching for, we have started to implement icons online to help our guests find and support Black-owned brands and founders when they shop online.”

Some of Target’s featured Black-owned and Black-founded brands are Cantu, Iman Cosmetics, The Honey Pot, The Lip Bar, and Black Girl Sunscreen. Hopefully this new feature will enable customers to continue championing Black Lives Matter and will help promote less-recognized or established beauty brands. We know we’ll be using the new feature the next time we shop Target, online.
