Critics and Fans Alike Are Obsessed With Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Folklore’

Taylor Swift’s unexpected 8th studio album folklore is truly a gift. After the release of folklore and “cardigan” (Swift’s first single and music video) on Friday, July 24,, fans quickly listened to the album and many were surprised by the style-shift evident in all 16 songs. Swift created her most lyrical album yet and opted for an indie genre. Unlike her past albums such as 1989, Reputation, and Lover, folklore is much calmer and in a way, less “poppy.” We’re currently living in the midst of a global pandemic and social change, but it’s evident that Swift’s album is a message of hope and healing for many. Even Taylor confessed that the creation of the album is a way for her to escape in the best way possible.

Swift acknowledged that it wasn’t in her plan to go back to writing new songs just a few months ago. Due to the pandemic, her Lover Fest is postponed until at least 2021. Without a concert tour to worry about, folklore came to life, and we could say it’s the best thing that has happened for Swift’s career. Critics are raving over the album and praised Swift for making quality material in such a dark time.

Variety declared, “It’s hard to remember any contemporary pop superstar that has indulged in a more serious, or successful, act of sonic palate-cleansing than Swift has with her eighth album, a highly subdued but rich affair written and recorded in quarantine conditions.”

It’s evident that Swift is a master of songwriting, and she’s here to stay.
