The popular singer took to Instagram to reflect on how sobriety has changed her life for the better.

In July 2018, Demi Lovato was put into hospital care for several days due to an overdose. After her hospitalization, she shared a message with her fans explaining her “illness” as something she must “continue to overcome.” Lovato informed the public that she would be taking time to “heal and focus on [her] sobriety” so that she could one day say “I came out on the other side.” Later that summer, she sought professional treatment.

A year and a half later, she made her public return with a powerful performance of a new song called “Anyone” at the 2020 Grammys.

Lovato has always been transparent about the ups and downs of sobriety, and her openness to talking about her journey has helped many people struggling with similar issues. And recently, the artist has had some good news to share with her fans. Yesterday, Lovato took to Instagram to celebrate her second anniversary of the day of her overdose.

“Today is my miracle day,” she began. “I’m so blessed to have one. It represents how the [doctors at Cedars-Sinai] saved my life. How my life has become something beyond my wildest dreams. Only 2 years after that terrible day, I’m engaged to the love of my life, and I can genuinely say I feel free of my demons. Each and every one. I never thought this feeling was possible.”

But while Lovato is grateful for the love she found through her fiance, Max Ehrich, she emphasized the importance of finding love within herself first: “Long before I had an engagement ring on my ring finger, I had the word “me” to remind myself that no matter what, I vow to love myself.”

She concluded the post by thanking her family, friends, and fans for all of the love and support they’ve given her throughout her journey and for respecting her privacy throughout the personal process of recovery.

We are so proud of Demi and how far she has come, and we cannot wait to see her continue to make strides in her personal and professional life as a happier and healthier person.
