Leslie Jones leads a star-studded group of hosts for the virtual unveiling of the 2020 Emmy Award nominees for the 72nd annual award show.

Joined by presenters Laverne Cox, Josh Gad, and Tatiana Maslaney, Leslie Jones announces some of the contenders for the 72nd Annual Emmy Awards.

As the country continues to practice social distancing, the commencement to announce this year’s Emmy Award nominees was held virtually, with host Leslie Jones joined by the three presenters staged in their homes. Before announcing the contenders for the awards ceremony, which will broadcast on September 20th, 2020, CEO of the Television Academy,  Frank Scherma, recognized how television can go beyond escapism and entertainment, but also help amplify the voices that must be heard. “2020 isn’t just about the global health crisis,” Scherma announces, “this year, we are also bearing witness to one of the greatest fights for social justice in history, and it is our duty to use this medium for change.”

2020 marks the highest percentage of Black actors nominated with a total of 35 out of the 102 actors nominated, totaling at 34%. The previous highest record of Black actors nominated for the Emmy Awards was in 2018, just under 28%.

HBO’s Watchmen received the most nominations, racking in a total of 26.
