Halsey and Marshmello Release a New Stripped Down Version of ‘Be Kind’
On July 29, Halsey and Marshmello released a stripped-down version of their first musical collaboration, “Be Kind.”
On June 27, the iconic duo dropped their first song together, “Be Kind.” In under a month, it has accumulated 24 million views, and 1 million likes YouTube. However, the duo did not stop there. A month later, they released another version of “Be Kind,” which highlights Halsey’s voice and her ability to hit high notes. The new version appears to be more relaxed, nostalgic, and gives greater acoustic range, unlike the original “Be Kind” track, which primarily offers electronic dance music as a background.

Marshmello previously collaborated with many prominent artists, like Selena Gomez, Khalid, Anne-Marie, and Logic. Both versions of “Be Kind” contain identical lyrics and address the topic of one-sided love. In the song, the romantic relationship seems to be withering away due to one person’s unwillingness to commit. In the pre-chorus, Halsey sings, “I know you’re chokin’ on your fears / Already told you I’m right here / I will stay by your side every night.” She continues, “I don’t know why you hide from the one / And close your eyes to the one / Mess up and lie to the one that you love.”

In the stripped-down version of “Be Kind,” the lyrics appear to be more personal and reflective, rather than invoking a more positive outlook on the romantic issue. Unlike the original version, which is more optimistic and appears to lift fans’ moods, the new “Be Kind” track is heartfelt, authentic, and suggestive of a painful realization about toxic love.
