Oprah Winfrey Calls for Justice for Breonna Taylor Through Billboards

O, the Oprah Magazine, has put up 26 billboards, one for every year of Breonna Taylor’s life, across Louisville, Kentucky.
The billboards state to “demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged,” and mention Until Freedom, which is a social justice organization that has been urging for the police officers involved to be arrested and convicted. On their website, there are many resources to learn more about what happened or get involved by protesting, calling, or donating. They urge people to take action and to hold the police officers accountable for their actions.
It has been 148 days since March 13, 2020, the day that Taylor died. Since then one out of the three police officers have been fired from their job and no-knock warrants have been banned in Louisville.
The artwork displayed on the billboard was the cover image from the September issue of O Magazine. This is the first time in the 20 years of the magazine that Winfrey won’t be featured on the cover of her magazine. Taylor’s face will be displayed across the city where she lived as a reminder of what happened.
This is amazing!

Her death has been mourned by millions of people and has sparked protests across the country. The public has voiced their concerns about police brutality. For many, the attention being brought to her death opened people’s eyes to lives, just like hers, who have been lost due to racially motivated actions.
The billboard also features a quote from Winfrey that states, “If you turned a blind eye to racism, you become an accomplice to it.”
