Disabilities and Visible Differences: Zebedee Management Redefines Fashion Beauty Standards

Gucci Beauty/Vogue Italia

Zebedee Management is a modeling agency working with and for people with disabilities and visible differences.

Zebedee Management was established in 2017 and has been hugely changing beauty standards ever since. Co-director, Zoe Proctor, spoke with E! News about their mission and impact on the lives of the agency models. “Our mission is to increase the positive representation of these models in fashion, advertising and wider media,” said Zoe. “We are part of the #inclusionrevolution.”

Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, and Hollister Co. are just a few of the many name brands Zebedee Management has allowed their models to shine through.

Their company has inspired consumers around the world to give people with disabilities as well as visible differences the opportunity to showcase on a bigger platform.

“For such a long time, our models have faced discrimination and been excluded from the industry. Zebedee has given them the platform to shine!” Zoe expressed to E! News. “Being a part of a fashion or beauty campaign means the world to them. It increases their self-esteem and feelings of self-worth. Not only does it impact them, but also their friends and family and wider society.”

Now, let’s meet some of the beautiful Rockstar models of Zebedee that are contributing to changing fashion history forever.

Ellie Goldstein: She has Down Syndrome and was cast by Gucci Beauty at 18 years old for their “Unconventional Beauty” campaign. Ellie loves all things performing arts.

Bernadette Hagans: 24-year-old Belfast model. Bernadette says, “I feel empowered when I model. Before my amputation of my leg, I was really shy. Modeling has helped my confidence grow and I feel amazing shooting.” When participating in a Huckbody shoot, she mused, “I love that I’m able to be a part of the change in the industry.”

ZEBEDEE X HUCKBOBDY COLLABORATION My name is Bernadette Hagans, I’m from Belfast and I’m a model with a prosthetic leg. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What does disability month mean to you? I think it’s so important to keep raising awareness of different disabilities and how we can still live completely normal lives. So many people don’t understand that having a disability doesn’t make you any less of a person, we all deserve equality and inclusion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What does modelling make you feel? I feel empowered when I model. Before my amputation of my leg, I was really shy. Modelling has helped my confidence grow and I feel amazing shooting. I love that I’m able to be a part of the change in the industry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who inspires you? I would say my family and friends do. Everyone has their own issues and journeys but I love that we can all keep pushing forward and overcome it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What is your proudest moment so far? Getting booked by a brand I really wanted to work with made me so proud because I didn’t think I could do it. I now feel like I can keep pushing towards anything that I want. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Model @bernadettehagans Creative Direction & Production by HUCKBODY @huckbody_ assisted by Laura Huckbody @huckbody24 & India Proctor @indiaproctorr Photography by Darren Black @darren_black Videography by Dani Lanae @calltheshots__ Post production by Chris Carr @carr4081 at Brain Make-up by Helen Brady @helenbradymua using Illamasqua @illamasqua assisted by Monica Montalvo @monicamontalvomua Hair by Mary Geoghegan @maryg.hair using Sebastian Professional @sebastianpro_official assisted by Annette Gray @nettgray ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Suit @hosheldonhall Earrings @adrianlewisjewellery Rings @amygotheridge_design Shoes @katmaconie

I’d love for my hands to be everywhere.”

ZEBEDEE X HUCKBODY Showcasing the potential of the models was at the heart of the shoot, and the images reflect the raw talent that was present. Not only this, but the shoot exemplifies luxury publishing and brand content. The high fashion creatives at Huckbody crafted a wardrobe of independent English designers, tailored to highlight each model’s incredible character. The shoot showcased seven of Zebedee’s amazing models; Bernadette Hagans; Reneé Valentine; Mollie Pearce; Johannah Sangster; Nancy Harris; Angela Selvarajah and Ellie Goldstein. These women all have different stories, and they came together to produce some amazing images. Disability Awareness Week calls for these women to be respected as models, but also for them to tell their stories. Turning a blind eye to the treatment of disabled people in the media is no longer acceptable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Zebedee model MOLLIE @mollie_pearcee Creative Direction & Production by HUCKBODY @huckbody_ assisted by Laura Huckbody @huckbody24 & India Proctor @indiaproctorr Photography by Darren Black @darren_black Videography by Dani Lanae @calltheshots__ Post production by Chris Carr @carr4081 at Brain Make-up by Helen Brady @helenbradymua using Illamasqua @illamasqua assisted by Monica Montalvo @monicamontalvomua Hair by Mary Geoghegan @maryg.hair using Sebastian Professional @sebastianpro_official assisted by Annette Gray @nettgray ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oversized cotton shirt by Nomad Atelier @nomadatelier Vintage leather Joseph spats and vintage jet rings from Sweet Thursday @sweet.thursday_ Oxidised silver, yellow & black rose-cut diamond & baroque pearl earrings by Jennie Gill @jennie_gillmaker Clog boots by Walkley Clogs #WalkleyClogs #ZBD #TEAMZEBEDEE #ZEBEDEEMANAGEMENT #DISABILITYAWARENESS #MODELSWITHDISABILITIES #inclusionrevolution

Reneé Bryant-Mulcare: 21-year-old who refers to her career with Zebedee as “living a dream that I didn’t think could ever be made true.” Reneé previously opened up about her heartfelt life story: “I was paralyzed from the age of only 6 days old, and I then began to use a wheelchair from the age of 4,” she shared. “Growing up with my disability from such a young age, my self-esteem and self-confidence was so low. I felt so different from everyone else and I didn’t see many people that looked like me, certainly not in the media or fashion industry anyway.”

ZEBEDEE X HUCKBOBDY COLLABORATION ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ THIS IS RENEE⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was paralysed from the age of only 6 days old, and I then began to use a wheelchair from the age of 4.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Growing up with my disability from such a young age, my self-esteem and self-confidence was so low. I felt so different from everyone else and I didn’t see many people that looked like me, certainly not in the media or fashion industry anyway. Since I’ve begun my journey with Zebedee, I am now living a dream that I didn’t think could ever be made true. I’ve always wanted to be a part of creating better representation in the world, and having the opportunity to be a model now, has made that become a reality. I have grown so much further into self-acceptance and confidence since I have started this journey. I have grown to celebrate my disability and to own all of the things that make me who I am, rather than feeling insecure about them. Campaigns such as Disability awareness I feel are so impactful, as it gives everyone the opportunity to embrace and showcase all the beautiful things that make them amazingly unique. As well as reminding us why representation is so important. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Creative Direction & Production by HUCKBODY @huckbody_ assisted by Laura Huckbody @huckbody24 & India Proctor @indiaproctorr⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photography by Darren Black @darren_black⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Videography by Dani Lanae @calltheshots__⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Post production by Chris Carr @carr4081 at Brain ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Make-up by Helen Brady @helenbradymua using Illamasqua @illamasqua assisted by Monica Montalvo @monicamontalvomua⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hair by Mary Geoghegan @maryg.hair using Sebastian Professional @sebastianpro_official assisted by Annette Gray @nettgray #ZBD #TEAMZEBEDEE #ZEBEDEEMANAGEMENT #DISABILITYAWARENESS #MODELSWITHDISABILITIES #INCLUSIONREVOLUTION
