Protests have gone on for days following the shooting of an unarmed Black man named Jacob Blake. Blake was shot seven times, close range in the back, and the incident has left him paralyzed from the waist down. He is currently still preparing for multiple surgeries and fighting for his life.

There have been reports of the shooter passing through the crowd of protesters with some sort of long gun. A disturbing video has also surfaced of police talking to armed civilians and thanking them for “their support.” It is believed that these armed men then went on to fire shots into a crowd of protesters.

Two people have been killed and one left seriously injured. Reports also mention that the shooter was able to bypass the police after the shooting without being taken into custody, despite wielding a weapon. A search ensued overnight to try and find the criminal.

Protestors continue to march for justice against police brutality that has been running rampant throughout the country. With the deaths of those like Elijah McClain, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Blake, anti-racists are fed up with the aggression that people of color face when dealing with the police.

Many comparisons have been made between Jacob Blake who was shot while breaking up a fight and non-black criminals who received a much different treatment when dealing with law enforcement.

The shooter was arrested the following day, August 26. We hope that justice is fully served and he is prosecuted. We hope that the officers in the shooting of Blake face action as well, and that political leaders hear the cries for justice from their citizens.

We hope that there is a systematic change that can move our country towards a better place where horrible things like this can come to an end.
