The well-known Disney ride first opened its doors to tourists and families in 1969 and spurred the creation of similar rides in Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. The ride is vastly different from It’s a Small World, Splash Mountain, and Peter Pan’s Flight as it involves scary, ghoulish figures and Halloween-style decor. The ride was used for inspiration for the 2003 comedy The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy who portrays an unfortunate realtor who accidentally purchases a haunted mansion. the terrifying comedy movie did very well in the box office and grossed $182 million worldwide.
The concept of creating a live-action movie based on a Disney ride is not new and has been done before, with a famous example being The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The theme park ride inspired a film series starring Johnny Depp, which consisted of five films and grossed $4.524 billion in box offices worldwide.
Information about filming and a release date regarding this movie are not available just yet, but we will be anxiously awaiting this new Halloween classic!
