MTV

K-pop superstars, BTS, perform “Dynamite” at their first MTV Video Music Awards appearance.

BTS performed their first English single last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. The septet performed in front of multiple different New York City backgrounds. Whether they were singing and dancing in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, Time Square, or full skyline, fans were obsessed with their high-energy performance.

Each BTS member wore a variety of different suits and vests. With their style and smooth dance moves, BTS made a groundbreaking debut.

As “Dynamite” reached its final chorus, fans experienced a change in background. The green screen displayed Seoul and fireworks going off behind them. It was a great way to embody their home into the song and bring the setting to an emotional level.

The vocals in this single have an array of notes, making this song challenging to sing, especially in English for the South Korean band.

“I am kind of in charge of English here, so in many parts of this song, you can hear me singing in the background with a low voice,” RM told MTV News prior to their performance. J-Hope added, “The singing in ‘Dynamite,’ it wasn’t easy, because the song is high-pitched.”

However, BTS did not skip a beat. The boys, Jungkook, Suga, V, RM, Jin, J-Hope, and Jimin, delivered an outstanding performance, with clean, impressive choreography.

BTS told Zane Lowe on Apple Music that they wrote this song “ in hopes of giving energy to the listeners. We’re glad this song turned out great and hope a lot of our fans can listen to it to receive the positive energy we tried to incorporate in the song.”

It is safe to say that BTS did exactly this.

BTS also took home four VMA’s with Best Group, Best Choreography, Best K-Pop, and Best Video for their single “ON.”

We are incredibly happy for BTS for their VMA debut, make sure to check out their full performance and congratulations to BTS on their big win.
