Madonna to Co-Write and Direct Own Biopic with Universal Pictures
Universal Pictures announced on September 15 the development of an untitled biopic on the legendary icon, Madonna, who will be front and center, co-writing and directing the film.
Madonna is one of the most impactful artists in the world. Also known as the Queen of Pop, she has sold over 300 million records and has won 225 nominations out of 658. With a five-decade career, she has demonstrated her versatile persona as a musician, actress, author, director, and entrepreneur who touches on topics such as global culture, art, sexuality, feminism, and women empowerment.
Thus it comes to no surprise for her to embark on this project. Only Madonna understands the real complexities of herself. “It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision,” she said.

The artist will be working alongside Academy Award-winner Diablo Cody to develop the script. Cody won awards for the films Juno and Tully and has expanded her work to tv series such as the United States of Tara on Showtime and One Mississippi on Amazon.
Joining the team as the producer is Oscar nominee Amy Pascal. She is best known for her work on the films Little Women and The Post.
Having Madonna at the center of development, audiences will undoubtedly witness a genuine masterpiece. “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” said Madonna. She elaborated on how the main focus of the film will be music, for it’s what has kept her career going.

It is for these reasons the crew has openly described this film as an honorable project. Universal Filmed Entertainment Group’s Chairman, Donna Langley, describes this opportunity as “an incredible honor for everyone at Universal.”
