Father-Daughter Duo Ron and Jasmine Cephas Jones Both Take Home Awards at This Year’s Emmys

American actor, Ron Cephas Jones and his daughter, singer and actress Jasmine Cephas Jones, have become the first father-daughter pair to win Emmys in the same year.

The father, known for his work in both the TV shows Mr. Robot and This Is Us. His daughter is best known for originating the roles of Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds in the musical Hamilton written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, both were awarded Emmys this past Sunday. Ron Cephas Jones won his Emmy for his recent work in the NBC drama This Is Us, while Jasmine Cephas Jones won her Emmy for her role in the short Quibi series #FreeRayshawn.

Ron Cephas Jones has also appeared in films including Across the Universe (2007), Dog Days (2018), alongside his daughter, and Dolemite is My Name, with comedian Eddie Murphy (2019). He has also appeared in shows like Law & Order (1996 and 1997), the television film adaptation of the play A Raisin in the Sun (2008), and Banshee (2015).

Jasmine Cephas Jones also won a Grammy Award in 2016 for her work as one of the principal soloists in the Hamilton cast album. Since her departure from Hamilton, Jasmine Cephas Jones has made her way into television and film, as she portrayed the character Chloe in the American comedy Mrs. Fletcher in 2019, and will be in the upcoming thriller movie Honest Thief.  In December of 2018, she also became engaged to her former Hamilton castmate Anthony Ramos, who portrayed John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton and will star in the upcoming film adaptation of Miranda’s musical In The Heights.
