Netflix Releases Trailer for ‘Over the Moon’
Netflix released the final trailer for the new animated film Over the Moon, which will be released on October 23.
Netflix and Pearl Studios have been working together to create this animated film, Over the Moon, which is a rendition of a traditional Chinese myth. When Fei Fei (Cathy Ang) was a young girl, her mother told her stories of a moon goddess, Chang’e (voiced by Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo). As Fei Fei’s life starts to change, she is determined to visit the goddess on the moon to prove it’s not just a silly myth. Being a STEM-proficient student, she builds a rocket ship herself and sets out on her journey.
Joining Ang and Soo will be Ken Jeong, John Cho, Margaret Cho, and Sandra Oh rounding out the rest of the voice cast. It will be produced by Gennie Rim and Peilin Chou, along with director Glen Keane. Keane is known for his previous work directing Academy Award-winning short film Dear Basketball.

In a virtual discussion featuring some of the cast, covered by Variety Magazine, Soo mentions that she has known about the story of Chang’e since childhood, through a children’s book written by Amy Tan. “I remember as a kid, asking my dad to read it over and over and over to me. Because I was just obsessed with this idea of the moon lady,” Soo said. “And when I was asked to play her, I was of course honored because it’s so infrequent that I’m being asked to play specifically Chinese characters. And also even more rare that I get to be in a film with incredible Asian actors who are surrounding me. So when I read the script and they invited me to come join them to create this beautiful story, I was, of course, immediately onboard and so excited.”
Mark your calendars and tell your friends because you won’t want to miss this original animated film premiering October 23.
