Netflix / Des Willie

Netflix will be releasing Season 4 of The Crown, showcasing pivotal characters such as Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher.

On November 15, Netflix will be releasing it’s much anticipated 4th season of their popular show, The Crown.  This season, in particular, is meant to put emphasis on Princess Diana and her interactions with the Royal Family.

The Crown is a historical drama focusing on the life of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd and the British Royal Family, following her life from the 1940s in the early days of her reign, to the present. Season 4 takes place in the late 1970s, introducing the famous Princess Diana. The series will look into Diana’s experience in the Royal family, how she dealt with fame, and her role to play as a princess in such an established institution. Furthermore, they will delve into Princess Diana (played by Emma Corrin) and Prince Charles’s (played by Josh O’Conner) relationship.

According to an article by Vanity Fair, we meet Diana when she is 16, and her life gets transformed overnight after going out with Prince Charles. The article states, “Once their fast-tracked relationship is announced, Diana is hunted by paparazzi and relocated, for privacy purposes, to the palace without any support system. The new husband and family from whom she craves love and support see her natural strengths as threats; they view her as an outsider and, even worse, competition.” Additionally, Helena Bonham-Carter (The King’s Speech and Fight Club) will be appearing later in the season for her role as Princess Margaret

Additionally, Gillian Anderson, well known for her role on X-Files and Sex Education, will be playing Margaret Thatcher, the first female prime minister of the U.K. In a statement released by Anderson, she states, “I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised defined an era.”

This is surely going to be an exciting season that will tackle the Queen’s story from another angle. Be sure to watch the upcoming season on November 15.
