Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is teaming up with director Steven Spielberg for a show about the women’s suffrage movement.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will “celebrate those who changed history and have strong contemporary reverberations, appealing to today’s rising tide of young, politically active audiences.” The first season will be an adaption of Elaine Weiss’ book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote that Spielberg’s production company Amblin Television obtained the rights of in 2018.

The series, titled The Woman’s Hour, will be made in partnership with Amblin Television and Warner Bros. Weiss herself presented the novel to Clinton after “seeing parallels” between the suffrage movement and the 2016 presidential election.

“Rights for the book were optioned by Amblin Television in 2018, after Clinton brought the project to long-time supporter and Amblin Chairman Steven Spielberg,” a press release said. “Clinton first discovered the book after Weiss made it her mission to get the novel to the former Secretary of State, after realizing the striking parallels between the women’s suffrage movement and the 2016 presidential election between Clinton and Donald Trump.”

Clinton is set to executive produce the series with Weiss and Amblin’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Angelina Burnett, who produced The Americans and Hannibal, is going to be the showrunner for the series. Warner Bros. television network The CW will be home to the series.

The Woman’s Hour will premiere exclusively on The CW Network upon its release. To read Weiss’ book, you can purchase a copy here.
