Oliver Jackson-Cohen Joins Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Lost Daughter’ Alongside Dakota Johnson and Olivia Colman
Oliver Jackson-Cohen has joined the cast of The Lost Daughter.
Entertainment Weekly revealed the news on Monday that the actor, best known for his role in The Haunting of Hillhouse, is now part of the star-studded cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film The Lost Daughter.
In a synopsis provided by IMDb, The Lost Daughter follows a woman on a beach vacation that “takes a dark turn when she begins to confront the troubles of her past.” The film will be an adaptation of the novel by the same name by Elena Ferrante. Ferrante became a New York Times best-selling author after the publication of her novel My Brilliant Friend.

It was revealed in February of this year that Gyllenhaal would be writing and directing the project, per Ferrante’s request. The LA Times revealed in 2018 that Ferrante would only give the rights of the film to Gyllenhaal if she were to direct it.
“Last November, I spent a few weeks writing this letter to Elena Ferrante,” Gyllenhaal said. “I said what I wanted to say to her about how I would imagine The Lost Daughter. She came back and said, ‘You can have the rights, but you have to direct it. I’m only giving the rights to you to direct.’”
Jackson-Cohen has been cast in the role of husband to Ferrante’s character Nina, played by actress Dakota Johnson. The film itself will revolve around the lead Leda, who will be played by The Crown‘s Olivia Colman. Jessie Buckley (Judy), Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass), and Paul Mescal (Normal People) are set to co-star.

At the beginning of the ongoing pandemic, Gyllenhaal made her directorial debut on an episode of the COVID-19 Netflix special titled Homemade, which depicted an intimate look at a life of quarantine.
Jackson-Cohen starred in the recent Invisible Man adaption with Elizabeth Moss and will appear in the newest season of Netflix’s original horror series titled The Haunting of Bly Manor on October 9.
