The Cast of ‘Hamilton’ Will Reunite For Biden Fundraiser

Playwright, activist, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda and the original Broadway cast of the musical phenomenon Hamilton will reunite on October 16 to raise money for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The highly-anticipated event will include a special performance and a Q&A with the cast which will be moderated by director Thomas Kail. Actors Leslie Odom Jr., Philippa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Javier Muñoz are set to take part in the event supporting the Biden Victory Fund. This event will take place at 9 PM ET, and will be available to those who donate to the presidential campaign.

Miranda also supported Biden’s campaign in a virtual event on October 6 with his father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr., and encouraged his fans to register to vote. The event specifically targeted Latino voters, and Miranda and his father implored minority voters to endorse Biden and vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Miranda and the cast of Hamilton have had a long-standing relationship with Biden and his former administration with Barack Obama. The cast of the Tony Award-winning and Pulitzer prize-winning musical has performed at the White House on several occasions. Miranda even performed an early version of the opening number (at that time called The Hamilton Mixtape) at the White House in 2009. The company also endorsed Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016.

In addition to Miranda and the cast of Hamilton, many other Broadway actors have endorsed Biden’s campaign. For decades, Broadway has stood in support of Democratic candidates. There has even been an Instagram account created for Broadway actors to endorse Biden. Other actors who have voiced their support for Biden include Santino Fontana, Renee Rapp, Annaleigh Ashford, Elizabeth Stanley, and more. Singer-songwriter Alanis Morisette and the cast of her musical Jagged Little Pill is also holding an event in support of Biden on October 13.

Miranda and the cast of Hamilton have taken to YouTube to encourage people to vote with a new song called “When We All Vote.”
