Hopes for a Second Season of HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’ Are in the Air

The HBO series, Lovecraft Country, took this summer by storm, and fans might get a second season.

Based on the novel by Matt Ruff of the same name, the series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) in search of his father (Micheal Kenneth Williams). Along with friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and uncle George (Courtney B. Vance), they embark on a 1950s Jim Crow America trip. What makes this show unique is its in-depth analysis of racism in America with a twist of witches, monsters, and ghosts.

With Jordan Peele as a producer and Misha Green as the creator of the series, it is no surprise Lovecraft Country was such a huge success. Especially with the series’ explosive season finale, viewers can’t wait for a second season.

However, HBO has not confirmed a renewal for the series, leaving fans waiting on a release date and new trailer. Nevertheless, Green has given us a glimpse of hope during an interview with Deadline. When asked about a second season, Green said, “Nothing is official yet, but I envision a second season that carries on the spirit of Matt Ruff’s novel by continuing to reclaim genre storytelling space that people of color have typically been left out.”

Green gives viewers hope of a second season by describing her vision. Along with this, Green points out the issue of lack of diversity in the entertainment industry. Not only did Lovecraft Country execute a great book to television adaptation, but it is helping pave the way for more people of color in the storytelling and horror genre.
