Drake Announces Release Date for ‘Certified Lover Boy’

On October 25, rap artist Drake turned 34 years old, and he chose to celebrate his birthday with his fans by announcing the release of his next album, Certified Lover Boy.

Drake released a trailer for the album on his Instagram page on Sunday. In the video, the star recreates the covers from some of his most famous works including, So Far Gone, Take Care, Nothing Was the Same and his last mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes. In the end, the roof of a stadium shows the letters ‘CLB’ and the release date is shown to be January 2021.

The first taste of new music came back in August, when Drake dropped the first single for the album, “Laugh Now, Cry Later.” The hit featured fellow rapper Lil Durk and debuted at Number 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Drake got to show his acting chops in the music video, which resulted in many memes of the star laughing and crying.

Shot at the Nike Headquarters, the video was very sporty, with Drake and Lil Durk recreating draft day pictures with the local team hats and with cameos such as Football Player Odell Beckham Jr. and NBA Star Kevin Durant. The video has received over 150 million views in just two months.

Fans went wild, and while some felt January is too far away, most shared their excitement through social media. After the announcement, merchandise for the album, and made by Nike, was released. The collection includes hoodies with ‘CLB’ and rose on the front, stylish coats with hearts, and classic Nike ballcaps with a red kiss on the cap. The merchandise sold out almost immediately, leaving shoppers waiting for a restock.

Certified Lover Boy will be Drake’s sixth studio album, following Scorpion from 2018. We are awaiting a tracklist to see if it is anything like the expansive 25 songs that we heard last time, but regardless fans are ready for Drake to top charts and break records per usual.  All the rapper’s previous albums have gone multi-platinum and peaked at Number 1 on both the U.S. and Canadian charts.

Drake has earned himself four Grammy’s, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, and many other accolades. This next album is expected to do even better and further solidify Drake as one of the greatest musicians of our generation.
