Warner Bros. Entire 2021 Film Slate to Debut on HBO Max and in Theaters

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that its entire 2021 film slate will premiere exclusively in theaters as well as stream on HBO Max at the same time.

This announcement comes after Wonder Woman 1984 was revealed to be launching in both theatrical and streaming format on HBO’s newly released platform.

The company revealed the exciting news on Thursday afternoon, stating that their entire 2021 film slate will debut on HBO Max and in theaters simultaneously for one month upon release.

Currently, Warner Bros. has Matrix 4, Dune, The Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah, Tom & Jerry, Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In The Heights, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Reminiscence, Malignant, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard and Cry Macho scheduled for 2021 release.

Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, released a statement revealing the decision was made based on how to safely respond to the ongoing pandemic.

“This hybrid exhibition model enables us to best support our films, creative partners and moviegoing in general throughout 2021,” Emmerich said. “We have a fantastic, wide ranging slate of titles from talented and visionary filmmakers next year, and we’re excited to be able get these movies in front of audiences around the world. And, as always, we’ll support all of our releases with innovative and robust marketing campaigns for their theatrical debuts, while highlighting this unique opportunity to see our films domestically via HBO Max as well.”

Warner Bros. Pictures Group chief operating officer Carolyn Blackwood assured movie-goers that this unique premiere plan is only temporary.

“This is a temporary 2021 plan. We have to support exhibition with the product,” Blackwood said. “We don’t think we’re changing the economics of these movies any more than the pandemic has. We’re adding another interval and period for revenue with HBO Max.”

Wonder Woman 1984 will be the first film to debut on HBO Max and in theaters on December 25. To check the release lineup, click here.
