Read on to find out more about this extremely talented singer and our cover celeb!
GLITTER: What is to be expected from a Demi Lovato concert?
DEMI: For me, this past tour was not just about the entertainment – I wanted my fans to walk away with a real message. I wanted to inspire people with this tour, and that’s why I invited guests like Spencer West who added a whole new element to my World Tour. In addition to Spencer West, Christina Perri, MKTO, Becky G, and Bea Miller hit the road with me and each added their own special touch.
GLITTER: You released a journal to go along with your Staying Strong book, why did you decide to add this?
DEMI: Keeping a journal has always been beneficial for me and helped me keep a positive outlook in my life. In my opinion, it’s one of the best ways to reflect. I wanted to create a journal as a companion to my book, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, to help inspire others to keep a journal as well.
GLITTER: Tell us how you’ve been doing in 2015!
DEMI: It’s been an absolutely amazing year so far – aside from my two tours, I also created my very own skincare line called Devonne by Demi, which I am super excited about and launches this spring!
GLITTER: “Really Don’t Care” has been a hit on the radio. Were you expecting this kind of reaction?
DEMI: Whenever I write a song, it’s because I’m feeling something. I think that people really connect to the strength that is reflected in this song but it’s also fun and can relate to anyone.
GLITTER: You were a part of the LA and NYC pride events in 2014. How important is it to you to show your support?
DEMI: I’m a strong believer in the fact that love is love. It doesn’t matter if you’re straight, gay, bi, trans- you should be able to love whomever you want. Pride is such a wonderful celebration of independence and self-confidence and being a part of that was an honor.
GLITTER: How long have you been doing the Acuvue 1-Day mentorship program?
DEMI: This is my third year being part of the Acuvue 1-Day program.
GLITTER: What was the Acuvue 1-Day mentorship experience like? Who did you mentor?
DEMI: It’s been so much fun working with ACUVUE! It’s so gratifying being able to pass on what I’ve learned to people who have been so impacted by music like I have. It’s a constant challenge to achieve your dreams, but I’m so happy to have helped some really awesome young ladies get closer to theirs. In 2012 I spent the day with Denise, and we worked on training her voice and realizing her dream of becoming a singer. Jessie, the winner of the contest in 2013, had felt the effects of bullying but then overcame them through her love of music, and we spent our day working on finding confidence in performing. This year, Shayla spent the day with me, on tour, learning first-hand what it takes to perform in front of thousands of fans, and then I invited her up to sing on stage with me. Seeing how much Denise, Jessie, and Shayla all grew in just one day was incredible!
GLITTER: When did you first need glasses and when did you switch to contacts? Did having contacts boost your self-esteem and contacts?
DEMI: I first got glasses when I was much younger and didn’t always feel comfortable or confident in them so I switched to 1-Day Acuvue Moist Brand Contact Lenses. While I now realize that wearing glasses can be fun, I also love my contacts – it gives you a sense of self-confidence and suits my active lifestyle as a performer.
GLITTER: When was the first time you knew you wanted to be a singer?DEMI: I knew I wanted to be a singer when I was very young. I performed at a school talent show at the age of 5 and loved singing ever since.
GLITTER: What instruments can you play?
DEMI: I play the piano, guitar, and drums – my fans got a sneak peek during my tour!
GLITTER: What is your favorite part about your career?
DEMI: The best part of my career is that I can use my success as a platform to spread awareness and support for those who are struggling. Knowing that I am able to make a difference in someone else’s life is an incredible feeling.
GLITTER: For our teen readers, what advice would you give to this generation of young adults?
DEMI: I would tell them to follow your dreams but always be sure to stay true to yourself. Even when things get tough, stay strong!
GLITTER: What are your plans this spring season?
DEMI: The upcoming season is going to be super exciting! I’m launching my skincare line Devonne By Demi and also have a hair extension line called, “Secret Color.” Devonne By Demi came out in December and a portion of the proceeds fund the Lovato Treatment Scholarship, helping someone who can’t afford the help they need for mental health. I’m excited to give back this season to causes that are closest to my heart but before all of this, I’m most excited for my World Tour, which continues to Australia and New Zealand this April!
