Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Made a Statement After Tabloids Claim They Will ‘Compete’ With the Queen’s Ceremony

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a rare statement yesterday in response to tabloid rumors about their relationship with the Royal family.

Each year, the Queen puts together a birthday honors list in which she awards prominent figures in the UK for their achievements. In awarding these people for their achievements, she grants them special titles falling under categories such as knighthood, MBEs (Member Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire), OBEs (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), and CBEs (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). According to Elle, “after The Sun and Daily Mail (notably, the two tabloids the couple are suing) alleged that they were planning to create their own “woke” awards ceremony that would “compete” with the Queen’s honors list.”

The Sun claimed that the couple filed papers in the US to recognize, “charitable service, education, science, literature, racial justice, gender equity, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, health and mental health.” However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not take these false claims lightly and are planning to formally launch their new company Archewell, which will aid them in situations like this.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, a press secretary for Archewell (the organization working with Prince Harry and Meghan) released a statement to the media, “We look forward to sharing more about Archewell’s work in the weeks ahead but any suggestion that it is intended to rival the UK honours list is false. Furthermore, the trademark application has followed the normal course of business for the U.S. Trademark process and any suggestion otherwise is also false.” This put the rumors to rest of a ceremony competing with the Queen.
