Selena Gomez Calls Out Social Media Platforms for Enabling Pro-Trump Mobs
Selena Gomez yet again proves that she is a force to be reckoned with.
Gomez, 28, took it amongst herself to call out the big tech companies on their inaction to stop the spread of misinformation on the sites.
On January 6 the singer tweeted: “Today is the result of allowing people with hate in their hearts to use platforms that should be used to bring people together and allow people to build community,” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter. “Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg, Jack Dorsey, Sundar Pichai, Susan Wojcicki—you have all failed the American people today, and I hope you’re going to fix things moving forward.”

In her posts, she’s calling out the big tech companies Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Instagram for enabling pro-Trump mobs and hate-speech.
She tweets that they are failing the American people and wants them to do better. The singer is holding these social media platforms accountable and wants them to be aware that their inaction is action and it’s time for them to put their foot forward.
After Gomez shared her tweets, Facebook has banned President Trump’s account. This also includes a ban on Instagram, until the end of his presidency.

In the past we have seen little action taken against Trump’s remarks on social media. Selena Gomez’s power is seen in all colors by bringing the most powerful man in the country down in one single tweet.
This isn’t the first time Gomez has attempted to call out these big tech companies. Back in December 2020, she made her voice heard to shut out hate and misinformation amongst social media platforms.
I’m speechless. @Facebook @Instagram how are you tolerating this hate? There’s still accounts there even though you have been notified!! https://t.co/Q3VUzLQ7IF

Celebrities speaking up against the spread of hate on social media is encouraging during this time of political unrest. We hope to see more social media platforms taking action to prevent the spread of misinformation.
