Former Attorney General William Barr Responds to Pro-Trump Riots That Took Place at U.S. Capitol Wednesday
Former Attorney General William Barr made a statement in which he accused the President of encouragement for the mob that stormed the Capitol.
On Wednesday, January 6, Congress met in Washington D.C. to officially count the Electoral College votes to determine the United States’ next President. Lawmakers were forced to flee when violent protestors began to raid Capitol Hill. These protestors are known to come from the Save America March, which took place in Washington D.C. the same day Congress met to count the votes. In a tweet, Donald Trump announced that he would be making an appearance to speak at the rally.

Former Attorney General William Barr said in a statement that President Trump is “Orchestrating a mob to pressure Congress” and, “The President’s conduct yesterday was a betrayal of his office and supporters”. Barr made statements during the riots as well claiming that the violence was unacceptable and called upon federal agencies to bring an end to the madness.
Along with Barr, many republican leaders have placed blame on Trump for the violence that took place Wednesday on Capitol Hill. Bloomberg Business posted a video on Twitter late Wednesday night of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham expressing his emotions toward the events. Graham stated, “…but today, all I can say is ‘Count me out. Enough is enough. I’ve tried to be helpful.'”

The final count of the Electoral College votes was determined around 3:40 a.m on Thursday, January 7. The final count declared the official presidency of former Vice President Joe Biden. Biden ended with a total of 306 Electoral College votes, while Trump trailed behind with 232 votes – a total of 240 is required to win the presidential election.
President Trump posted a video to Twitter praising the mob on Capitol Hill. Twitter officials later took the video down. Vice President Pence released a statement apart from the President declaring, the mob “did not win.” He stated, “Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house.”
Although the election ended months ago, we are pleased to see an official result. President-elect Joe Biden has officially won the Electoral College votes and will be taking office on January 20.
