Freeform Renews ‘The Bold Type’ For Fifth and Final Season

The Bold Type will return for a six-episode, fifth and final season.

Freeform announced the show’s return in a YouTube video giving fans a sneak peek into the first episode’s table read. The announcement confirmed the return of: Melora Hardin as Jacqueline Carlyle; Katie Stevens as Jane Sloan; Aisha Dee as Kat Edison; Meghann Fahy as Sutton Brady; Matt Ward as Alex Crawford; Stephen Conrad Moore as Oliver Grayson and Nikohl Boosheri as Adena El-Amin. Not included in the video was Sam Page as Richard Hunter.

Freeform has not announced whether Sam Page will return for this final season. Page’s character was a series regular for the first four seasons and noticeably absent in the table read video.

The show’s fourth season ended back in July 2020 with a reduced episode count due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By cutting the last two episodes from the season, some of the show’s storyline was left hanging in mid-air. The renewal will provide fans with a conclusion for the three leads.

The Bold Type is a drama series centering around the lives of three millennial women (Stevens, Dee, and Fahy) as they navigate professional and personal issues in New York City. The show regularly promotes female-led conversations about feminism, race, sexuality, religion, journalism, and politics.

The show premiered as part of Freeform’s “forward-looking” programming alongside Grown-ish. Freeform states the goal of their rebranding is, “the animation to be used for a drama is more frenetic and pop-y, comedy is more light and bouncy, and for sci-fi we use more blur and drifting animations.”

The renewal of The Bold Type is one of the first programming moves made by new Freeform President Tara Duncan after stepping into the role last year.

While we wait patiently for the return of The Bold Type, you can stream the first four seasons now.
