Paris Hilton’s ‘Stars Are Blind’ Gains Newfound Popularity After Being Featured in ‘Promising Young Woman’
Due to being featured in Fennell’s Promising Young Woman, an old hit single by Paris Hilton; “Stars are Blind”, has recently been trending for the first time in years.
The new dark comedy thriller, Promising Young Woman, has been gaining massive traction since being released on December 25, 2020. Written, directed, and produced by Emerald Fennell, the film centers around Cassie Thomas (played by Carey Mulligan); a woman seeking vengeance for her sexually-abused friend. Fennell’s movie brings up the topical themes of consent, feminism, and the #MeToo movement. During a key moment, Cassie dances with Dr. Ryan Cooper (played by Bo Burnham) inside a pharmacy. They dance to the 2006 song, “Stars are Blind”, sung by Paris Hilton, catapulting the media socialite’s music back into the spotlight.
Paris Hilton, famous for her many endeavors in tv, social media, and business, decided to pursue a singing career back in the early 2000s. One of her biggest hit singles was “Stars are Blind”; a reggae fusion song produced by Warner Brothers Records. The track can be best described as a romantic pop anthem, with a music video depicting flirty adventures on the beach. Produced and co-written by Fernando Garibay, the demo was originally made with Gwen Stefani in mind, before eventually making its way to Hilton. In an interview with Variety, Garibay expressed excitement over the recent resurgence of “Stars are Blind”. He mentioned that it took two months to get everything just right and that Hilton had a perfect voice for his song.
Hilton shared the Promising Young Woman scene on her Instagram, praising the movie for using her music, and congratulating Fennell on the film’s success.
