Amanda Gorman to Recite Poem Before Super Bowl LV to Honor Pandemic Heroes
Poet Amanda Gorman plans on reading one of her original poems for the Super Bowl LV.
Gorman recently gained national recognition after delivering her poem, as the youngest poet laureate, at President Joe Biden’s inauguration. The 22-year-old’s poem was entitled “The Hill We Climb.”
During Super Bowl LV, the NFL will name three honorary captains who were leaders and heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The three individuals, educator Trimaine Davis, nurse manager Suzie Dorner, and veteran James Martin, will be honored in the poem and will participate in the coin toss ceremony.

Three honorary captains have been selected for the Super Bowl – educator Trimaine Davis (Los Angeles), nurse manager Suzie Dorner (Tampa), and Marine Corps Veteran James Martin (Pittsburgh).
Amanda Gorman will recite a poem about these three nationally on CBS.
Though these three special individuals will be awarded the honor of having a Gorman poem dedicated to them, they represent all educators, health care workers, and veterans that have worked tirelessly since the pandemic hit. They continue to be an inspiration for all Americans.
The Kansas City Chiefs will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Superbowl, which will take place on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

“We are honored to recognize these three individuals who represent the best in all of us,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “During this incredibly challenging time in our lives, Trimaine, Suzie, and James have exemplified the essence of leadership, each in their own way. We are grateful for their commitment and proud to share their stories and recognize them during this special moment on Super Bowl Sunday.”
Gorman’s Super Bowl performance will be streamed nationally, so stay tuned.
