Netflix Series ‘The Crown’ Earns Six Golden Globe Nominations

The world-renowned Netflix series The Crown has earned six total nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

The hit show first aired on Netflix in November of 2016. The Crown currently has four seasons on Netflix, with two more seasons on the way. The fourth season, which was released in November of 2020, has been the most popular thus far. According to Insider, season four of The Crown peaked 83 times that of the US’s average TV series. The previous seasons never peaked above 45, in a graph created by Parrot Analytics.

The storyline of the series centers on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. It follows the Queen as she navigates through life as a newlywed. It focuses on her romantic life and the political events that have shaped her reign as Queen over the years.

The show gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the power of being apart of the Royal Family. In season four of the show, the late Princess of Wales, Diana, is entered into the story. People around the world were fascinated with Princess Diana and continue to be. The show’s recent attention most likely has to do with her character’s entrance as they begin to tell her story. The show should expect more attention from viewers as they enter more present-day times in the two upcoming seasons.

Over the years, The Crown has been nominated for a number of Golden Globes. The show was nominated for its first Golden Globe Awards back in 2017. The series earned three nominations and claimed the title of two. It won Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, won by Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II. In 2018 it was nominated for two categories, and in 2020 it was nominated for four categories. This year’s nominations set a record for the most Golden Globe nominations the show has ever received in a singular year.

The Crown totaled six well deserved Golden Globe nominations. Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin have been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama. Gillian Anderson and Helena Bonham Carter also have nominations in the same category titled Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. Male actor Josh O’Connor earned a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama. The show as a whole has a nomination for Best Television Series – Drama tallying the total nominations to six.
