According to Glamour Magazine, “The Free Britney Spears documentary has clearly sparked multiple reckonings over the way we as a culture treat young famous women, especially in tabloids and interviews with powerful media figures. The latest resurfaced video to make people cringe: a 2013 late-night chat between David Letterman and Lindsay Lohan.”

According to Twitter users, “It always is open season on women,” meaning that toxic behavior from talk show hosts towards young women is nothing new and needs to be accounted for. In the interview, Lohan is clearly flustered by questions about her drug addiction and rehab and doesn’t want to talk on that subject because she believes she’s there to discuss her upcoming project, Scary Movie 5. Instead, Letterman continues to bully her and mock her struggle with substance abuse.

At one point in the interview, Lohan says, “This wasn’t in the pre-interview,” because Letterman decided to go off-topic and berate the recovering young woman. Another incredibly ridiculous part in the interview is when Lohan states, “You’re starting to sound a lot like Dr. Phil,” because Letterman decides to take on a psychologist-like role while analyzing her life when in actuality, they are there to discuss her work.

Lohan has definitely had her share of mistakes, troubles, and adversity within all aspects of her career and life but has certainly come out of all of them a stronger person. Letterman’s behavior is certainly atrocious and vindictive of talk show hosts toxic culture towards their guests, especially young women.

Fans have commended Lohan for how poised and polite she is throughout the whole nightmare, keeping a smile on her face and laughing along with the punches.
