In the interview, Aaliyah talks about how even though some record companies weren’t sure if her music had what it took to make it in the industry, she knew she did. She was able to overcome the painful sting of rejection in order to continue her journey of becoming a star. She knew that her talent was enough and essentially she was enough.

Her positive attitude and mindset helped her to become a star and make it in the music industry. The clip ends with her saying how proud she is of herself for never giving up and maintaining belief of her talent. The overarching message is that you should, first and foremost, be a fan of yourself because confidence is the key.

“Everything Aaliyah said was facts,” Jackson said in the caption. The resurfacing of this interview was a reminder of her strength, grace, and veracity. Though she has died, her legacy will live on through her music, fashion, and words. There is no doubt that she will continue to be an inspiration to many.

By posting the clip, Jackson was not only able to affirm Aaliyah’s beliefs, but also share them with others. The message is clear and still applies 20 years later. Aaliyah began trending on Twitter immediately after the message was shared and fans poured out love for her.

The interview was for “Plus Vite Que La Musique” on the French channel M6. You can find the full, uncut version of the interview below. The interview was recorded back on July 9, 2001, during Aaliyah’s visit to Paris.
