Hulu Has Found Its Cast for ‘Conversations With Friends’ Based on the Sally Rooney Novel

After the highly-received adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People as a TV show developed by Hulu, they are eager to produce her debut novel.

The success of Normal People shot two acting new-comers to overnight fame: Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne and Paul Mescal as Connell. The complex and heart-breaking show brought viewers a modern love story that no one will forget for a long time to come.

The same is promised with Rooney’s novel, Conversations with Friends. The story follows Frances, a college student who is best friends with her female ex, Bobbi. Things get complicated as the duo meets a married couple, Melissa and Nick, and each starts to fall for the other. What could go wrong?

The cast reveal combines some relative newcomers with previously established star power. Frances will be played by Alison Oliver who attended the same school as Mescal. Bobbi will be played by an American born in Houston, Texas, Sasha Lane. The married couple will be played by Jemima Kirk from the show Girls and Joe Alwyn whom you may know from The Favourite or as Taylor Swift’s partner.

The show also pulls some of its crew members from Normal People such as director and producers Lenny Abrahamson and Alice Birch. One producer, Ed Guiney, from the show had this to say about the production: “Alison, Sasha, Joe, and Jemima are the dream cast to lead Conversations With Friends and all of us at Element are so excited about the incredible scripts from our amazing team of writers which we have been developing with the oversight of the brilliant Lenny Abrahamson.”

Production will begin this year on the special that will have 12 episodes. If all goes according to plan, Conversations With Friends should be out for release on Hulu by 2022.
