YouTube Originals To Release ‘Black Renaissance,’ a Special Highlighting Key Modern-Day Contributors To Black History

YouTube Originals

YouTube Originals will soon be releasing Black Renaissance, a new special that will center prominent Black figures that have impacted the world.

Last year, there was an increased demand for diversity and racial inclusion following the surge of Black Lives Matter protests around the world. Companies big and small made promises to promote diversity and hire more Black employees.

YouTube was no different, and they announced an initiative to help amplify Black voices late last year with the creation of the #YouTubeBlack Voices Fund, which allocated $100 million for producing Black content. The fund was used for several YouTube Originals set to be released through 2021.

Black Renaissance is the latest YouTube Originals creation that will focus on Black living legends that have helped create change and shape the world we live in. Those featured will range from musicians and artists to politicians and writers.

Black Renaissance was created in partnership with Google Arts & Culture, a non-profit initiative that works with artists and cultural institutions to provide online access to art from around the world. The special was produced by Done+Dusted, who’s also responsible for other major productions including the Emmys, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The special will include big names like President Obama and Michelle Obama, Stacey Abrams, H.E.R., Anderson .Paak and many more who have helped break down barriers and pave the way for others. It’s a great way for the platform to end its celebration of Black History Month.

There’s no better time than now to lift up Black leaders and creators who have used their gifts and passions to make an impact. Be sure to tune into Black Renaissance, out on YouTube on February 26.
