Jennette McCurdy spoke upon her acting days coming to an end and shared that she won’t be returning to the iCarly reboot that is making its way to Paramount+ this March.

Since the announcement of the iCarly reboot, fans have been left to wonder if McCurdy would also be returning among her costars as she had kept quiet about her inclusion until now. She previously portrayed Sam Puckett, Carly’s (Miranda Cosgrove) best friend. Although the six-season show came to an end back in 2012 there is a reboot in the works at Paramount+, fans shouldn’t get too excited to catch McCurdy in the upcoming reboot. McCurdy has shared on her podcast, Empty Inside, that she is “embarrassed” and has some resentment towards her past acting career.

In the recent episode of her podcast that aired on February 24 titled, “Fish Out Of Water,” McCurdy was chatting with star Anna Faris (Brokeback Mountain, Just friends, Scary Movie) in regards to how the two can relate on a personal level of being put into acting at such a young age. McCurdy explained, “My mom put me in it when I was 6 and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn’t have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success.” As her family’s main source of income, McCurdy felt she was unable to enjoy her roles as her career was seen as a necessary job for her At such a young age, this pressure to provide ultimately caused resentment towards the jobs she held.

She also added: “I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed”.

McCurdy, like many other child stars, expresses her regret surrounding most of her career choices, wishing she had picked different portrayals altogether. She was only really able to move on from this stage of her life after the unfortunate passing of her mother.

When Faris asked her if she would ever consider returning to acting, McCurdy talked about how she had written a personal one-woman show, titled “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” in which she ended up acting in but she also stated how that would be the most of her acting days. While still sorrowful about the loss of her mother, McCurdy continues to emphasize that with her mother’s passing, she was able to let go of her past careers in order to focus more on herself and the content she felt engaged and confident with.

The news of McCurdy would not join the iCarly reboot left many heartbroken to see that their favorite character wouldn’t be returning. Though fans have expressed to Twitter to express their sadness around the situation, many have also been compassionate and understanding about McCurdy’s choices, wanting the best for her personally.

Although she’s saying goodbye to acting, McCurdy has expressed her interest in writing and directing, so fans can hope to see some of her work in the future. Along with the possible new projects, McCurdy can be seen (or rather, heard) on her podcast, Empty Inside, Apple or Spotify.
