Lifetime and A&E’s Janet Jackson Documentary ‘JANET’ to Be Released in Early 2022

Lifetime and A&E are releasing a two-night documentary on Janet Jackson in early 2022. The documentary is tentatively titled JANET and will release to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her first album “Janet Jackson'' which was released in 1982 when she was 16.

The Lifetime and A&E two-night documentary on Janet Jackson tentatively titled JANET will release to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her first album Janet Jackson sometime in 2022.

Janet Jackson is a singer, performer, and actress. Her iconic music career earned six Grammy Awards, two Emmy nominations, one Golden Globe, one Academy Award, among many others. When she was young, her siblings formed a band called Jackson 5, and she moved with them to Los Angeles. She is most known for her song from 1986 “When I Think of You.” In 1990, she won nine Billboard Awards for her album “Rhythm Nation 1814.”

The star has also been known for diving into the film industry. She was in several movies in the 90s and early 2000s including Justice in Poetic Justice from 1993 and Patricia in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Just Get Married?. Most recently, she has been a performer and writer for three episodes in the FX series Pose as well as a performer in the 2019 movie Hustlers.

The upcoming documentary was filmed over the course of three years, following Janet and her family coping with the loss of her father, Joseph. The film will include archival footage as well as home videos that have not been released to the public before. Janet is co-produced by Workerbee and Associated Entertainment Corporation. 

The documentary will also cover controversies such as her accidental partial breast reveal during the 2004 Superbowl with Justin Timberlake. Jackson also reacts to the death of her brother Michael Jackson. As well as drama, the documentary covers the more exciting moments in Jackson’s life such as her becoming a mother.

Janet Jackson is the executive producer of her documentary along with Randy Jackson. Ben Hirsh is the director.

As well as this documentary, A&E is set to release over 2,500 hours of new programming including 70 hours of documentaries and over 200 movies. Lifetime and A&E have slated the release of JANET in early 2022.
