In the interview, Prince Harry and Markle claimed the Royal Institution offered the couple no support regarding the tabloid harassment of Markle and that a member of the Royal Family made racist remarks about the color of their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

On behalf of Queen Elizabeth, Buckingham Palace issued a short statement addressing the statements maintained by Prince Harry and Markle.

In her response, the Queen begins by addressing the Winfrey interview and that “the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.”

In the interview, both Prince Harry and Markle confirmed that a Royal Family member made inquiries into how dark their unborn child’s skin would appear. While Prince Harry refused to call out anyone by name, he did inform Winfrey after the interview that neither the Queen nor her husband Prince Phillip asked those questions.

Queen Elizabeth’s statement goes on to say, “the issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

However, many of Markle’s supporters took to social media to say Buckingham Palace is engaging in gaslighting the couple by diminishing their claims about race.

The statement ends with Queen Elizabeth’s assurance that despite the interview, “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

No other member of the Royal Family has issued a response. However, Prince Charles purportedly chuckled when asked about the interview during a visit to London’s Jesus House church.
