Selena Quintanilla Will Receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Grammys
The late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez will posthumously receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 63rd Grammy Awards on Sunday, March 14. Selena Quintanilla-Perez will be the first Texan woman to receive one of the Grammys’ highest honors — The Lifetime Achievement Award for her impact in the music industry. Selena is known to the world as the Queen of Tejano music. She had been a huge star, generating hits like “Como La Flor,” “Si Una Vez,” and “I Could Fall in Love.” At the height of the talented singer-songwriter’s career, her life had been tragically cut short on March 31, 1995, when she was shot by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar. Even though her death shocked the world, she left an indelible mark as a Mexican-American woman. This honorary award is a testament to her beautiful work.
In an interview with People, Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla spoke about how his daughter would have been very excited to receive such an award. He compared this award to the excitement she had felt when she won a Grammy at just twenty-three in 1994, roughly a year before her untimely death.

More recently, Netflix released Selena: The Series in 2020 with Christian Serratos as Selena. The series received mixed reviews. This series had also inspired a different generation to become familiar with Selena’s work. Selena had been gone for over 25 years in 2020 but her music was still strongly felt.
